Painting from her home studio in Kelowna, B.C., allows Colleen the time and space to focus on her artwork. Constant personal and private study and exploring new and unique ways to hone her skills keeps Colleen motivated to produce award-winning paintings. She is inspired by beautiful objects and heirlooms, as well as ordinary household items. Teaching classes in both watercolour and acrylic gave her the opportunity to capitalize on the lessons for her students which resulted in winning numerous awards with the Federation of Canadian Artists.
Initially a landscape painter in watercolour, and looking for a niche for herself, she decided to explore other subject matter and media. She started painting Still Life and Florals in oils and acrylics, as these media better suited her temperament as well as her painting style. Colleen's attention to detail and the ability to paint what she "sees" has given her the confidence to take risks and accept challenges that others might avoid. She has recently been challenging herself to paint her still lifes and florals on black gallery canvas, which has been very successful. Taking her work one step further, she has come full circle by bringing her black canvas method back to landscapes.
Largely self-taught, she has supplemented her knowledge with a Fine Arts course, and has studied and taken workshops with both local and well-known international artists. She has also been involved in many national, juried, and non-juried exhibitions, and has had several solo shows. She was recently awarded AFCA signature status with the Federation of Cana-dian Artists.
Colleen holds memberships in The Painters’ Studio, the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Rotary Centre For the Arts, the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan, the Vernon Arts Council, the Society of Canadian Artists, and Oil Painters of America. Her work can be found on numerous online Art Societies as well as in private and corporate collections in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, and has been featured in a variety of publications.
